Hi, I’m Cori.

My writing life began with my name being called over the first-grade intercom.

I was behind my classmates in reading speed, so several times a week, my name came over the intercom, followed by instructions to report to “Reading Intervention.” I hated having the whole class hear it. Then I wrote my first (tiny) book there. For all the embarrassment attached to that room, it was also where I began to love reading and writing.

Years later, I majored in writing and journalism at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. I went on to build a career in marketing, which kept me close to words and stories, even when they belonged to brands and organizations rather than to me.

In 2018, I enrolled in a humorous memoir class through Second City and began writing for myself again. Since then, I’ve taken classes in memoir and personal essay and published work in the Chicago Tribune, HelloGiggles, The Temper, and Loathsome No More. Now I’m completing the final edits of my debut memoir.

Memoir brought me back to writing, but I’m not interested in staying within one genre. Whether a story begins in memory or imagination, I’m drawn to the ways people try to control their lives, what happens when that control fails, and the humor that exists besides all of it.

I grew up in Chicago and now live in Durham, North Carolina, with my husband and our cat, Griffin.
